Enjoy some festive music during your museum visit when we’ll be joined by the University United Methodist Church Choir!
This concert will take place at 2pm and 3pm in our atrium. On the half hour (2:30pm and 3:30pm), Blanton Fellow in European Art Christine Zapella and Director of Education Ray Williams will offer a brief gallery talk about the Virgin Mary in European art.
Included with museum admission. The Blanton is located at the intersection of Congress Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Paid parking is available in the Brazos Garage on Brazos Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Parking is $4; bring your ticket with you to the museum.
ABOUT THE CHOIR
The University United Methodist Church, Austin, Sanctuary Choir has a long and rich history of sacred choral music. The choir includes over fifty members and presents anthems and responses each week in services of the church as well as throughout the year for major liturgical emphases, such as the annual Service of Lessons and Carols on the second Sunday of Advent, and two major choral and orchestral works annually.
In 2017 the Choir was invited to perform at Chicago’s Fourth Presbyterian Church in collaboration with renowned composer René Clausen, as well as in liturgical services at St. James Cathedral, Chicago.
In June 2019, the choir presented a concert tour of Northern Italy at the invitation of The American Council for International Studies, performing concerts and in liturgical services at several noteworthy venues including high mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican; Chisea di San Agnese, Rome; the Basilica of St. Francis, Assisi; Chisea di San Gaetano, Florence; and Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice, renowned for its collection of paintings by Italian Renaissance master, Tintoretto.
The UUMC Music Ministry has been under the Direction of Jolene Webster, Ed. D., M.M. since 2015. She came to Austin from Dallas/Fort Worth with a career in music education and church music spanning forty years. Dr. Webster has numerous published articles and is in demand as a presenter, conductor, clinician and adjudicator for various musical and educational organizations.
